In this session we will share the surprising and sometimes counter-intuitive results of research into persuasion techniques used by the best negotiators, debaters, coaches, and even ‘vaccine whisperers’. You’ll learn nine proven and practical ways to increase your influence, even if you’re not the boss!

1. Slides + quiz: Present the surprising and sometimes counter-intuitive research on what distinguishes the best negotiators and debaters from the average ones. I’ll use a series of quizzes to ask the audience to guess which techniques have proven to be most effective. The content is based on research from Adam Grant, Neil Rackham, and David Maister (15-20 minutes)

2. Slides: Share examples and stories that illustrate the techniques and their effectiveness. (5-10 minutes)

3. Interactive pair-share: I’ll display a summary of the 9 techniques. Participants will pair up and share one technique that they will try in the real world. (5-10 minutes)
4. Questions and answers. (5 minutes)
